Description: Yvonne Rainer (writer & director) - The Man Who Envied Women (1985) - typed filmscript w/ corrections/amendments / 61pp. / VG; sold with Berenice Reynaud - French subtitles for The Man Who Envied Women (aka, L'homme qui enviait les femmes) - 69pp. typescript with corrections / VG+From the collection of film scholar and critic Berenice Reynaud. Reynaud and Rainer were close during the 1980s, collaborating on a film festival devoted to colonialism and sexuality, among other things. Indeed, Reynaud devoted an essay to The Man Who Envied Women to the 1989 publication of scripts and essays entitled The Films of Yvonne Rainer (Indiana U.P.). Here we have a copy of the script with several interesting corrections. Opposite p.3 (verso of p.2) a half sheet of alternate dialogue (with arrows indicating placement) has been taped. At the foot of p.3 "Why, the idea" has been circled. Opposite p.4 (verso of p.3) "CAPS?" and an arrow have been placed. On p.5 "you" has been corrected to "your". On p.6 quotation marks have been placed around Trisha's dialogue. P.9, a correction at the page's penultimate line. P.12, correction to the last line. P.13, corrections to lines 12 & 14. P.14, correction to the 6th line from the bottom. P.15, correction to the 5th and 7th lines from the bottom. P.16, two corrections to the lower half of the page. And so it goes throughout; corrections in pen and pencil. As well, a number of typed insertions between lines indicate that this was somewhere between a first draft and a final proof.In addition, we have Reynaud's 69pp. typescript set of subtitles for the film. This consists of 70 sheets, a title sheet and 68 numbered pages (but 34 used twice, so 69), typed on onion-skin paper and housed in an Eaton's box. This is complete. It contains numerous small amendments (mostly accents placed by hand) as well as a few instances of white-out and correction. Presumably, the subtitles were intended for a French theatrical release or a televised form of the film, but I've been unable to pin that down.
