Description: "What is an Uberreuter Chromaline Proof?", you ask. From a topic on the board: https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?p=11639052&hilit=yemen#p11639052[AddSpace]-- Ueberreuter is an Austrian printing company. Oddly, they are not normally known for stamp printing.-- They appear to have been active in printing proofs for Yemen between approximately 1980-1985. This is the "YAR" i.e. official Yemen, not one of the breakaway rebel areas.-- The proofs are on Chromalin (sometimes spelled "cromalin" or "Chromaline") paper. This is a high-quality photographic paper that appears as a thin card with a glossy surface. It is normally used for proofing other types of color print, since it is specifically designed to capture colors accurately. The colors on the proofs really "pop".-- These come as sets of proofs for issued stamps, plus there are several for sets and souvenir sheets never issued. The rejected designs seem to have something in common -- they are for "generic" topicals not related to Yemen. Cars, birds, famous paintings -- the usual stuff philatelic agencies wanted to print up for just about every country. Conclusion: They were probably produced for government officials to gain approval before actually printing the stamps. Clearly, some "extras" have gotten into the philatelic market, but I could find no information on how, or how many. A photo of a spreadsheet is attached showing what issues you get. These sell for approximately $40/set. Purchased a large group of these that had been in storage since the 1980's, so offered for about half of the individual set value. Excellent item for the patient retailer. This Yemen YAR Chromalin Proof Stamp Collection is a rare find for any stamp collector.
