Description: WW2 US Air Corps / Air Force squadron patch. Custom sewn with layered felt. Representing the 424th Bomb Squadron. Features a black cat riding a bomb or torpedo. Formed as a heavy bombardment squadron in January 1942, trained in the Pacific Northwest under Second Air Force, with Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses. Reassigned to Seventh Air Force in Hawaii, November 1942 and performed performing search and rescue and antisubmarine patrols until January 1943 while transitioning to long-range Consolidated B-24 Liberator heavy bombers. Deployed to the Central Pacific from Hawaii throughout 1943 for long-range combat bombardment operations against Japanese forces in the Central Pacific; New Guinea; Northern Solomon Islands and Eastern Mandates campaigns. Deployed to the New Hebrides in Melanesia and operated from numerous temporary jungle airfields, engaging in long-range bombardment operations during the Bismarck Archipelago; Western Pacific; Leyte; Luzon and Southern Philippines campaigns until the end of the war in August 1945. Assigned to Clark Field, Philippines after the war ended, demobilized with personnel returning to the United States, unit inactivated as paper unit in January 1946 in California. This patch is perfectly suitable for sewing on a leather jacket or satchel. Measures 5.25" in diameter. Standard size for wartime patches of this type. This patch is custom made with hand cut, layered felt and machine sewn (by me). Just the way it was done in the Big One! This patch is in excellent condition with no flaws. Will wear very well on your jacket or bag. A lot of work goes into painting these patches but I have fun doing it. Please review all photos in detail and ask any questions that you may have prior to purchase. Thanks! NOTE: jacket show in photos is for example only. Listing is for the patch only. CLOTHING AND FABRIC ITEMS: All clothing and fabric items have been steam cleaned and/or washed per eBay standards.
