Description: This is special. I knew it was awesome just by the subject. The American Eagle clutching the flag, arrows and wheat and the words "E Pluribus Unum" beneath it. It was professionally framed. This frame is older than the piece of needlepoint. The piece is from the 1970's. It does look to done in a wool thread based on the pile and look with a loop, It is however hard to be sure without unframing it, which I don't want to do. It does look to be in very good condition. There is no sign of fading, staining, insect damage or mildew. It is a completed piece and beautifully done. The frame has a paper back which is dark with age and glued on to the wood with a wire hangar attached across the back of the frame. There are two areas that have small tears in the paper. The frame has some scratches and dings, but upon close inspection I believe this frame to be significantly older than the tapestry it holds. The corners are a simple miter held together by square nails. It looks to be hand made and carved and stained as the nails are not driven consistently on the frame. No staples were used either. The eyes attached at the back are probably circa 1970 and the glass doesn't have bubbling so that is probably newer as well, but that frame is giving me antique vibes and very antique vibes at that. I fell down a rabbit hole researching the needlepoint, but am confident that it is 1970's after researching it, but that frame is most likely pre-1830's. Square nails were used between 1780 and 1830 which is cool as heck because this frame could very well be almost as old as the original flag in that eagle's talons. It is just really cool.
