Description: This is a lovely vintage figurine of an old woman crouching on a sandy beach with a covered basket for shells. She's smiling, and looking slightly upward. The base of the figurine has a sandy texture, and there are a few small shells near her toes. This piece measures 5" side to side, 4" front to back x 7" tall. The hand painted details on this piece are amazing! There's a lifelike crease on her wrist, tiny teeth, and lines on her forehead that make her look so real. From what I was able to research, Hakata Urasaki figurines and dolls were frequently brought home by American soldiers stationed at Fukuoka, Japan during the Korean war in the 1950's. A blue circular trademark is stamped on the bottom that reads "Made in Japan". There are flakes of paint missing from her clothing in several places, and the tip of her nose. There may have been more shells on the sandy base, and some are broken pieces, but they look natural. I could not find any chips or cracks and she still has all her fingers and toes.
