In late 1928, Walt Disney lost the rights to Oswald no thanks to his distributor Charles Mintz, who also worked for Universal Studios. By late 1929, Charles Mintz, much like Walt Disney before him, also lost the rights to Oswald. Carl Laemmle, the founder and head of Universal at that time, allowed studio animator Walter Lantz (Pre Woody Woodpecker years.) to take over production of Oswald if he beat him in a card game. This drawing is from between 1933-1935 until Oswald was completely redesigned in 1936 to a more realistic all white rabbit.
