This coin celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Vasyl Krychevskyi, who was one of the most prominent and unique figures of Ukrainian art in the late 19th through the mid-20th centuries. Krychevskyi had a broad range of talents: he contributed to architecture and painting, designed books, produced artistic presentations for theatrical performances and films, while also designing Ukraine’s national coat of arms, state seal, and paper money and stamps of the Ukrainian People’s Republic. Krychevskyi had an intimate knowledge of folk and world art, he knew how to teach, and constantly studied himself. Drawing inspiration from the artistic work of the Ukrainian people, Krychevskyi left behind a significant heritage – the artist’s creative influence and multifaceted individuality can be felt in all branches of art.
