The Rifleman TV Series 1958 First Episode Script, Chuck Connors, Johnny Crawford

Description: This is a first-generation COPY of an original script from THE RIFLEMAN TV series from my personal collection (not a transcript or Photoshop recreation). It is from the first episode of the series titled “The Sharpshooter” which stars Chuck Connors, Johnny Crawford, Dennis Hopper (yes, THAT Dennis Hopper), Leif Erickson, R.G. Armstrong, and Sidney Blackmer. The series begins with Lucas and Mark McCain riding into the town of Northfork with the hope of buying a ranch and settling down. A shooting match is being held and the prize money could help pay for the ranch...but Jim Lewis, the man who 'runs' Northfork, doesn't want Lucas to win and threatens to shoot Mark if he does. Created by Sam Peckinpah and Arnold Levin, the series began as an episode of Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theatre which aired in March 1958. The episode was edited and some scenes were reshot to make the opening episode of THE RIFLEMAN (you can spot some inconsistencies when you watch the episode). In the script, there’s also a scene with Connors (joined by Crawford) talking about what the show will be about. I’m not sure if that portion ever aired. In the original script, Lucas McCain was to be John McCain (not the senator). The script's cover has been reproduced in color and a sheet of acetate is included to keep it looking pristine (to be honest, this copy looks better than the original). The script pages are printed on one side. Great care has been taken to make this a piece that a TV collector will be proud to own and display.
