The Exploration of the World The Navigators by Jules Verne 1880 FIRST US Edition

Description: Volume two of Celebrated Travels and Travellers. This is a nice condition copy of The Exploration of the World: The Great Navigators of the Eighteenth Century by Jules Verne. Translated from the original French and published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1880. Profusely and beautifully illustrated by L Bennett and P Phillipoteaux. Hunter green all-cloth boards are in good shape and the decorative front cover and spine still show well. Rubbing/scuffing in general. Wear to the edges, corners, and spine. Corners are bumped and material is starting to wear away at the head and tail of the spine. The fore-edge of the front board is somewhat misshapen, perhaps due to humidity. The pastedowns and end papers show soiling and toning and there is some marking both in the front and at the rear. The hinges are in good condition. See pictures. The spine is straight and the binding is still secure, although it should be handled with care. The pages and page ends are toned. There is a small amount of foxing and/or soiling here and there but most pages are very clean and there are no marks, no tears. All pages and plates present.
