Description: The No. 196 Curved Rabbet Plane is a rare Stanley item, even more rare to find in this condition. The nickel plating is nearly 100%. The finish on the top of the handle and on the front top is clean and polished to a shine. The plane is as found. I haven’t done a thing to it since I bought it at an auction over 30 years ago. I’ve stored it carefully since then. The cutter is clean and sharp and looks to me like the original factory grind. No rust or pitting. The depth stop and edge guide are in place. The only negatives I see are the two thumbscrews have lost some nickel—a little on the depth stop thumbscrew and a lot on the edge guide thumbscrew. Also some minor issues on the lever cap hold-down screw. I doubt it was used much. Any wear and tear is probably from long term storage.
