Description: Up for sale here is this update kit for the Sony TA-5650 amplifier. There are several updates that need to be applied to the TA-5650, and this kit includes the parts for all of them, plus it includes detailed instructions to walk you through everything. The TA-5650 and other similar Sony VFET amplifiers use VD1221 diodes that age poorly and need replacing, and there are a few other updates to be performed as well. This kit is designed to cover the service bulletin updates for the TA-5650, plus one optional upgrade for the power supply board. It is a useful update for any TA-5650 amp, but this is very unlikely to fix non-working amplifiers. It is not a full rebuild kit. The TA-5650 and other similar Sony amplifiers uses VFETs, which are special transistors that are no longer made and are very hard to find. I do not have replacements for these, and I do not know where to get them. This kit includes: 4 1N4148 pairs (to replace the four VD1221 "death diodes")4 150 ohm 1/2W resistors (to replace R323, R328, R373, and R378 on the driver board)4 4.3k ohm 1/4W resistors (to replace R321, R322, R371, and R372 on the driver board)1 100k ohm 1/4W resistor (to replace R421 on the power supply board) 1 270k ohm 1/4W resistor (to replace R503) 1 470 uf 10v Nichicon PW capacitor (to replace C501) 2 100 uf 35v Nichicon PW capacitors (to replace C305/355) 2 1N4004 diodes (to replace D405 on the power supply board)1 6" piece of wire to assist in replacing D405 (color may vary from picture) 1 small piece of heat-shrink tubing (to assist in replacing D405) These are all high-quality brand new genuine parts, the same parts I use when I rebuild vintage gear. I will include very clearly-written instructions to walk you through the entire process. However, this is a fairly complicated rebuild, and you should know what you're doing and have a decent soldering iron and something to heat the heat-shrink tubing. You will also need heat-sink compound and a drill with a 1mm or 0.8mm drill bit, for the D405 replacement, which involves drilling a small hole in the power supply board.
