Description: This Simpson 260 Analog Volt Ohm Meter is a reliable tool formeasuring resistance, AC and DC currents, AC voltage and DC voltage, and decibel levels. There are several versions of the Model 260. I was not able to find much information on this particular model. The only labelling on the meter, inside or out, is "Simpson Model 260". The original manual is included and contains some schematics. There is writing on the inside front cover. There are no tears on the manual and all pages are in good condition (no rips, tears or creases). The case shows wear but does not have any holes are tears. The meter face is unscratched and clear. Zero Ohm knob and meter pointer screw work as expected. The case has a thin crack (see photo) that is not separated. The meter is of unknown pedigree. Upon initial assessment, the resistance ranges could not be zeroed and the high resistance range did not work at all. I opened the back cover (4 screws) and observed that 3 of the 5 batteries had leaked and the corresponding battery terminals were corroded. I carefully removed as much of the corrosion as possible and installed new batteries. At this point, resistance, AC and DC voltage functions appear to work properly. The DC voltage measurement was tested at low voltage only (1.5V, 3.2V and 9V batteries). The resistance function was tested at each range to verify that the initial zero could be set (via "Zero Knob"). This was followed by measuring a 10 ohm, 1K ohm and 100K ohm resistance. The only AC voltage test performed was on an open breaker and the measurement behaved as expected for a floating, open circuit voltage (measurement was 4 to 8 volts AC, depending on how I held the test leads). I did not make any current measurements. A few of the batteries are difficult to access. They are available once the rear cover is removed. However, further disassembly would be required to properly clean and adjust the battery terminals. How to further disassemble the meter was not obvious to me and I did not undertake that project. However, the effort is recommended. It is possible that the batteries could be dislodged during shipping. The minimal testing that I did was performed within a few days of shipping. This Meter is being sold as is.
