Description: RhodochrositeSweet Home Mine, Alma Mining District, Park Co., Colorado, USA 19.4 grams3.5 x 3 x 1.7cm A beautiful rhombohedral rhodochrosite crystal in matrix. The main crystal is bubble-gum pink and translucent, measuring 1.1cm across. The specimen contains many smaller rhodochrosite crystals, several sulfides, quartz points, and even some tiny fluorite crystals. This is an amazing specimen with lots going on. Sits well for display. The Sweet Home mine produced some of the best Rhodochrosites in the world. Originally a silver mine from 1873 to 1966, it was mined for Rhodochrosite specimens until 2004 when the company that owned it finished their operation and - as part of their clean-up - sealed the entrance.
