Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Up for sale is an ultra-rare 1910’s Gallet & Co. Multi-Chron 30 minute chronograph cased in silver with one of the first iterations of the Valjoux chronograph movements. These were supposedly used by the British Royal Flying Corps (RFC) during WW1. It has been fully serviced and ready to wear out of the box. This is a great opportunity to add a special piece of vintage military horological history to your collection. The original glossy white enamel dial, filled with amazing detail, is in clean condition with no signs of cracks and all indices and markings are clearly evident. It is marked “SWISS” at the 6 o’clock position. The original puffy pumpkin colored lume is mostly retained on the Arabic numbers. The original iridescent blue steel cathedral style hands have been relumed at an earlier time and can always be easily redone to the new owner’s liking. The chronograph hand style is spectacular and even the sub dial hands are each uniquely detailed. The sub dials are lightly textured separating them from the glossy dial. It’s much more impressive than the pictures capture. The original 39mm x 45mm silver case is in wonderful, dent and damage free condition that remains unpolished, coated in years of patina. The watch is 13mm thick. It opens similar to a pocket watch, double hinged on the left side, held shut by compression. Both the hinged case back and hinged bezel with attached crystal can be opened and working perfectly, tightly snapping shut. The lugs were expertly soldered on at the factory making this one of the earliest wrist worn chronograph watches. The inside case back is hallmarked with an icon of standing bear animal, 0.935 for the fineness of sterling silver, the case maker’s mark “A.G.R.” which stands for Arthur George Rendell, “Gallet & Co. Switzerland,” and the numbers 801039 with an “S” underneath. There are a watchmaker markings that were hand engraved years ago. The dust cover, in similar condition to the case, is nicely decorated and maintains the same marking as the case back except for the “Gallet & Co. Switzerland” wording. The original onion styled crown remains, with the functioning pusher to operate the chronograph feature. The case is attached to a new, 18mm, vintage style, high quality, genuine leather strap made by Fleurus France. The early original Valjoux movement is fully serviced and regulated keeping excellent time with a hearty amplitude and acceptable beat error for a 100+ year old watch. The chronograph works perfectly. It is signed “Gallet & Co. Swiss” and “17 Jewels 4 ADJ.” It is all ready to enjoy! No added expense of servicing that often accompanies buying vintage watches. Please examine the detailed photos of the watch carefully as they are an accurate representation of the condition. It does not come with original box or papers but will come in a nice presentation box. Shipped with UPS, fully insured, and adult signature required. It will be well packed, protected and shipped fast. We ship internationally as part of the eBay Global Shipping Program. We do our best to be as accurate and definitely honest as possible. Please feel free to ask any questions or request further photos.
