Description: Here is an impressive piece of history. This ia a beautiful piece from Germany, during the years of 1885-1920. The stamp is unique: I have not found another piece from this maker (nor any other) that includes the red flag on the castle! Also unique to this maker is the inclusion of all cream and white roses. Franz Anton Mehlem usually concentrated on roses of red, pinks, and burgundy. I was impressed to find this cake plate! There is slight paint loss, as you can see from the close-ups. I actually used the close ups in order to emphasize the intricate hand-painting and artistry. This cake plate is painted in a beautiful shade of mauve, with the tones of creams, pearl, and muted greens for the flowers. The rim is beautifully scalloped, with a wave and fan design. See the photos for close-ups of the artistic touches throughout this cake plate. This cake plate would be perfect on display or in use. This would be wonderfully appropriate for a collector of German culture. Consider this also for a cake plate or platter collector. This plate would be perfect for a collector of rose-inspired china. Lastly, this cake platter would be a wonderful addition for the collector of Franz Anton Mehlem pieces, which are becoming rare to find!
