Pancho Barnes Aviation Pioneer Founder Stunt Pilots Union *[Rare]* Signed Cover

Description: Florence Lowe ''Pancho'' Barnes [1901 1975] was a pioneering American aviatrix, record air race pilot, founder of the first movie stunt pilots' union, and member of the Ninety-Nines. In 1930, she broke Amelia Earhart's world women's speed record. In 1931 she worked as a stunt pilot in Hollywood, flying in numerous movies including Howard Hughes Hell's Angels. It was at this period that she founded the Associated Motion Pictures Pilots, a union of film industry stunt fliers which promoted flying safety and standardized pay for aerial stunt flying. In later years she opened the Happy Bottom Riding Club, a bar and restaurant in the Mojave Desert, Southern California, where her clientele included all the aviation greats, Chuck Yeager, Bob Hoover, Jimmy Doolittle, etc. Listed for auction is the exceedingly rare autograph of Florence Lowe ''Pancho'' Barnes signed on a commemorative aviation postal cover. The autograph is signed ''Florence Lowe Barnes'' in black fountain pen and the cover is postmarked Oakland, Calif Jun 30, 1930, and affixed with three U.S. postage stamps. The cover measures 6.50 x 3.75 inches, it has a trivial toning, otherwise it is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic and exceedingly rare to obtain. She has always been an aviation collectors favorite; this is only the third example of her autograph we have ever offered for sale.
