Description: ORIGINAL INDIAN WARS ERA U.S. MODEL 1873 BAYONET SCABBARD. This scabbard is for the U.S. M1873 socket bayonet as issued for use with the U.S. 45-70 Trapdoor Springfield rifle. The steel scabbard body is in good condition without any dents, dings or damage. The blued finish shows wear & age. The leather hanger is tight & intact showing some likewise wear & age. The leather hanger is attached to the scabbard body by 2 folded over tabs, one of which is held by a rivet. From what I researched it is said this feature dates the scabbard to pre 1880. The scabbard measures 18 1/2 inches long.
