Description: NGC ( XF ) Roman AE of Constantine II AD 316-340 EPFIG HOARDConstantine II, born in 316 as the eldest son of Constantine the Great and Fausta, became Roman emperor in 337 alongside his brothers Constantius II and Constans. His attempt to assert his perceived rights as the eldest son led to his death during a failed invasion of Italy in 340. Constantine II's early career involved military achievements, including victories over the Sarmatians and Goths. After the death of his father, the three brothers were named Augusti in 337 and divided the Roman territories among themselves. Constantine II, dissatisfied with his share, engaged in disputes with Constans over territory, leading to his march into Italy in 340. He was killed in an ambush near Aquileia by Constans's generals, and Constans took control of his realm. Following his death, Constantine II and his memory were condemned.Higher Grade ( XF ) Extremely Fine - Certified Authentic , Graded and Encapsulated by NGC EPFIG HOARD - From a Hoard of Roman Coins Buried in Epfig in Modern-Day Alsace, France!
