Description: This listing is for a copy of "Many Happy Returns: The Democrats’ Cook Book, or How to Cook a G.O.P. Goose," a RARE piece of ephemera from the 1960 JFK Presidential Campaign. The original proceeds from the sale of this cook book helped to buy airtime for Democratic candidates. Frank Sinatra wrote the introduction: "Not only should every Democrat own a copy of this book, but he should load up all his or her friends, and even smuggle some copies into Pasadena and other points where the enemy is strong and square." The partisan cookbook was written by politicos and their supporters, including wives and celebrities. It contains Jacqueline Kennedy's recipe for waffles, as well as recipes contributed by Lauren Bacall (Watercress Soup), Bette Davis (Red Flannel Hash) and former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt (Huckleberry Pudding), among many others. Recipes are reproduced as they were submitted by the contributors -- sometimes typed, but many handwritten on personal letterhead. Very good vintage condition. Pencil marks on pages 6-7 (table of contents). Back cover and spine are lightly stained. One "tooth" towards the bottom of the spiral binding is cracked / missing. See photos.
