Description: Discover a new Kanji character every day, 365 days a year. Each character in the Japanese language contains diverse meaning, usage and spirit. Through our everyday lives, we encounter Kanji characters and explore their spirit. Koyomi is designed as a way to easily experience Japanese calligraphy. Compared to the Western aesthetic of appreciation, the Japanese aesthetic is rooted in functionalism and the practical beauty of Zen. This day-to-day calendar presents Kanji characters written by a master calligrapher, offering their meaning, stroke order and a space to practice, instilling harmony and an enriching moment of focus, leaving the outside world behind. Nowadays, we rarely have the opportunity to write, which gives us all the more reason to take a moment each day to write a character. By simply copying the character, we shift our focus to the breath, the sensation in our hand, the shape of the character, the feel of the brush, helping us rediscover the joy of writing. Much more than just gazing at a Kanji character, you will experience and understand its spirit by engaging in the act of writing it yourself. The page-a-day calendar with a kanji on every page. How can we enjoy and appreciate Japanese calligraphy in our daily lives? That is why we created the “koyomi.” The “koyomi” calendar has a space where you can try writing the Kanji. Through calligraphy, you can learn the correct strokes to write each Kanji. Of course, you can try writing as you like. Nowadays, we have less and less chances of writing, that we hope through writing the Kanji, you rediscover the enjoyment of writing. By actually writing, you might feel the heart embedded in each character. SUZUKI Mohri Born in Sumida-ku, Tokyo in 1984. Chair of “Haku-jitsu-kyo” in Kagurazaka, Tokyo.
