Description: The Survivors of the Chancellor & Martin Paz by Jules Verne.A very unique variant first US edition. The text block is the same as the first edition, published by James Osgood and noted as such. The binding states that it's Porter and Coates. What happened is that on March 28,1876, Osgood auctioned off the rights, plates, etc to some 400 titles and thus this edition was able to be created. Boston: Osgood, 1876. Published on December 2, 1876. Illustrated by Edouard Riou. As noted in Myers bibliography of Verne, 47, as well as in The Jules Verne Encyclopedia, V014. 8vo. With 55 illustrations. Recased with new endpapers. Light foxing and wear/scuff to boards. There's a note inside the front cover that it lacks the extra title and frontispiece, but they look very present to me. Possibly there was another frontispiece? A beautiful two extra illustrations either way! I have multiple other early editions of Verne available.
