Description: Japanese Wood Nesting Dolls - Samurai - Hand Painted – Antique Vintage Not my area of expertise but appear to be Japanese Nesting Dolls… Wood and Hand Painted… decoration appear to be Samurai warriors… Measure: 5” tall (the largest) Set of seven (7) – incomplete as the upper of the 2nd smallest is lost. Age? Considerable – good signs of natural handling and use… My guess would be late 19th c – early 20th c. Condition Some exterior darkening/discoloring of wood – particularly the largest. Some age related cracks from drying of wood. All doll.tops go on/off properly. Designs of top / bottom all align. Tiniest doll does not open, but is solid. All have been turned and hand made.
