Description: Available is this 160 page hardcover with dust jacket titled "I Buried Billy" by Paco Anaya and published by The Early West in 1991 as a first edition first printing limited to 3,000 copies. There were no more printings of this book. One of the very few primary sources to offer an account of Billy the Kid's career and death from someone who actually knew the young outlaw! After Billy escaped from the Lincoln County jail by killing his two guards on April 28, 1881, he fled to the Fort Sumner area to be near his sweetheart, Paulita Maxwell. Billy hid out several nights with Paco Anaya and spent much of that time telling Paco about his notorious escape and some of his past exploits. Paco Anaya also interviewed Sabal and Celsa Gutierrez about Billy's last night. It was while the Kid was in the Gutierrez household at Fort Sumner that he asked Celsa to fix him something to eat, and she handed him a butcher knife and told him to go to Pete Maxwell's house, where a side of beef was hanging. That was the end of Billy, of course, for Sheriff Pat Garrett and his two deputies happened to be there looking for the fugitive. This is an absolute must-have reference for anyone interested in Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett, one that has become exceedingly scarce in recent years. The printing was limited to 3,000 copies, and it has been long out of print. Thank you for looking. All items will be packaged carefully for protection from moisture and rough handling.
