Moderate scuffing to the joints; corners bumped through, edges rubbed. Occasional very short splits to leather at upper and lower joints. Some occasional scuffs to cloth covers. Marbled page edges and endpapers. Hinges generally good and sound; volume two hinges cracked but holding. Bindings are tight. Bookplate of Australian media mogul, collector and philanthropist James Fairfax, who owned the Stanbridge Mill estate in Dorset, to each FFE. Title pages in red and black. Some scattered light to moderate foxing, with a few instances of light staining to a page or two. Folio sized volumes measuring appx. 16 x 10 inches. Vol. 1: 1861, 722 pp. Vol. 2: 1863, 862 pp. Vol. 3:1868, 755 pp. Vol. 4: 1870, General Introduction (i-cxlvi); 534 pp.; Dissertation on Domesday Book plus Indices, etc. (i-clxiv). Loosely inserted to Vol. 2 is a portion (pp.3-14) of the Dorset County Chronicle and Somerset Gazette for Dec. 28, 1911 with an article "The Mystery of Corfe Castle: Where was Edward the Martyr Stabbed?
