Description: Hall #488 Bean Pot w/Lid #782 New England Shape Size 6" Height HTF1933-1953 Exquisite Decorative HALL CHINA New England BEAN POT w/LID, #488 Pattern w/No Trim, circa late 1933-1953 from East Liverpool, Ohio, USA HALL COLLECTOR FRIENDS: We have collected Hall Orange Poppy kitchenware & other Hall pieces for 30 years. In our searches for our collection when we find items that we do not collect but think others would like, we offer them here! DESCRIPTION: This features the #488 pattern on ivory with no trim. We show many views of the piece in the photos to give you a good feel for the beauty of the bean pot. The lid has the yellow flower with the red center whereas the one in our collection has the purple flower! CONDITION: The condition of this bean pot is superb. We can find no defects, damage, or wear use. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. (We are very picky Hall collectors and find the condition of this bean pot very acceptable to us--We just don't need another #488 bean pot in our collection!) DIMENSIONS: The bean pot has a maximum diameter of 7 1/8" and a height of 6". The measurement of the handle to the opposite side is 7 7/8". HISTORY/MARKS: When the East Liverpool Potteries Company was dissolved in 1903, Robert Hall, one of the principals, formed Hall China Company. After his untimely death in 1904, his young son, Robert Taggert Hall took over and made it his mission to rediscover the long lost process from the Ming Dynasty of producing a non-lead based glazed china using a single fire process. He succeeded by 1911 creating the craze-proof finish for which Hall China became famous for over 100 years. Hall China remained in the extended Hall family until they were sold to Homer Laughlin China Company across the river in Newell, West Virginia, the manufacturer of Fiesta. Hall China is not in production today as their operating kilns have been moved to Newell and most of the original facility on Anna Avenue is being demolished. Margaret & Kenn Whitmyer’s Collector’s Encyclopedia of Hall China cites this mark as mark #6 HSQK. The #488 design was produced 1933-1953.
