Description: Really gorgeous early 20th century fine binding by MacDonald of this 4-volume set published in 1905 and 1906 by E. Grant Richards. "The Chapbooks" was a four volume series originally published with vellum covers and edited by John Masefield. The four books are: “Lyrists of the Restoration”, “Essays Moral and Polite,” “The Lyrics of Ben Johnson, Beaumont and Fletcher,” and “The Poems of Robert Herrick.” The books are lovely 32mos (five inches tall and thick) and display beautifully together. Gorgeous polished ¾ morocco leather with marbled paper. Elaborate gilt to the spines, with raised bands and intricate detailing. Top edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Almost “new” condition, with just a scuff or two (pictured). A vibrant, glorious set to enjoy. They gleam from the shelf.
