Description: This is a custom 12" figure commemorating a real American outlaw and gunman of the Old West, William Brocius, better known as "Curly Bill" Brocius. William Brocius was born in 1845. The origin of William Brocius (possibly an alias) is thought to be from one of two states. Some feel Curly Bill originated in Missouri, while another possibility iwas Texas. Whichever is true, there is a general consensus that Brocius cowboyed for various cattleman from Texas and was known in some of the cattle towns in Kansas. Brocius arrived in the Arizona Territory about 1878. For a time he was a tax collector for Sheriff John Behan. Curly Bill is best known for being part of an outlaw gang the Cochise County Cowboys. Other members of the gang were Ike Clanton, Johnny Ringo, Frank Stillwell, Billy Claiborne, Tom and Frank McLaury. The members of the gang were on good terms with local Sheriff John Behan. The gang's main endeavor was rustling cattle in Mexico and selling them in Arizona. They also were thought to rob stagecoaches as well as other crimes. Tombstone eventually saw the arrival of Wyatt Earp with brothers Virgil and Morgan. Wyatt's friend Doc Holliday also arrived in Tombstone. It was not long before the Earps and Holliday found themselves in conflict with Brocius, Ringo, Clanton, and the Cowboys. One night after heavy drinking Brocius and his friends were approached by Tombstone's Town Marshal Fred White. White wanted to disarm Brocius for disturbing the peace. When Brocius tried to hand White his guns, one of the guns went off severely wounding Marshal White. Wyatt Earp arrested Brocius and took him to jail. White was popular and some of the townspeople wanted to string Brocius up. Before Fred White died he stated that he did not think Curly Bill meant to shoot him, that the gun went off by accident. At the trial Brocius was acquitted and released. Conflict between the Cowboys and the Earps continued. Eventually the two factions shot it out at the OK Corral. Curly Bill was not part of the OK Corral shootout but is believed to have been part of the ambushes later, that killed Morgan Earp and seriously wounded Virgil Earp. After these ambushes Wyatt formed a federal posse to hunt down those responsible and deliver justice. The posse found and killed Frank Stillwell. During one of the rides Wyatt and his posse came upon Brocius and a group of Cowboys and shot it out. Brocius fired at Wyatt and missed while Wyatt's shotgun blast killed Brocius. The conflict in Tombstone would rage awhile longer but Curly Bill Brocius was at an end. Curly Bill Brocius was truly a colorful character of the old west. Figure designed mainly for display purposes for the wild west fan. Please note that while this figure does not look exactly like Curley Bill or Powers Booth, there is a bit of a resemblance. ALSO please note- cards on boots are custom made as well as holsters and gunbelt- metal six-guns are from marxman, hat from giffin. This figure is fairly articulate and displays nicely. This would make a nice addition to any collection. stand included. sold as is. Please note the following-when a figure is a custom figure that means it is not a licensed product or "official" but something the customizer did by combining figures and accessories from different makers and toy releases to come up with the custom figure or figures. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked into the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own. Because I needed to support my new hobby, I started selling some custom figures. My prices reflect my acquisition cost, time involved, and some profit.
