Crinum Lily, Infusion, large, blooming-size bulb, RARE new hybrid

Description: DESCRIPTION: We did the first commercial offering of Infusion, a new hybrid cross done by Alani Davis in about 2002. It is a unique hot pink ("red" - one of the darkest you will find). On occasion, it can have random, white stripes in the flowers. This type of streaking happens on occasion in other different red crinum and makes this even more interesting. Mr. Davis has given us permission to offer a limited supply of his creation. Our largest bulb, is about 5" in diameter after growing it since about 2005. In the first 8 years it has produced approximately 70 new offset bulbs. We have recorded as many as 14 buds on a 40" scape, but the hybridizer reports scapes of 5' 6" tall. This plant is more compact than its parents, Ellen Bosanquet and J C Harvey, and will make a wonderful addition to anyone's crinum collection. These bulbs grow extremely fast reaching blooming size in less than 3 years and is a June-August bloomer. We grow over 1000 different crinum including about 350 of our own hybrids. This is one of the more choice, red crinum on the market and it is still very rare. BACKGROUND: A hybrid cross of Ellen Bosanquet x 'Gonzalez' done by Alani Davis in about 2001. 'x Gonzalez' is a "found" crinum and a cross of the species scabrum and americanum. GROWING CONDITIONS: This is a semi-hardy and easy to grow bulb requiring no special care. It tolerates a wide range of soils and cool temperatures, at least to zone 7 and maybe colder with heavy mulching. They should do best planted in the ground in full sun or partial shade, but they will also make excellent container plants. They can survive nicely out of the ground for very extended periods if allowed to dry. DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID: You are bidding on a large, blooming-size bulb about 2 1/2 - 3" in diameter, at least 4 years old that should bloom within a year. Crinum do not like to be moved, so it can take a year just to "settle in." Bulbs will be freshly dug, shipped bare root and with leaves March-November. In the winter months the leaves may be absent.
