Description: WW1 and WW2 British Army Daylight Signalling Lamp & Morse Key Metal Container with integrated Morse Key and Signalling Lamp. The top is hinged in the centre with two doors, one door per compartment. One compartment for the lamp, cable and staff, with the Morse key attached to the underside of the lid. There is an instruction label next to the Morse key.The other compartment is a smaller, empty metal box for spares, such as spare battery and bulbs etc. There is another instruction label on the underside of this lid. Dimensions - 21cm x 20cm x 16cm (L x W x H) approx The Lamp, Electric, Signalling, Daylight, also called a Lucas Lamp, is a military signalling lamp whose use started in the First World War (WW1) and through until after the Second World War (WW2). The "Lucas Lamp" was invented and patented by Oliver Lucas in 1916. Many were made by the famous Lucas Industries lamp manufacturer Joseph Lucas Ltd. or J.L Ltd of Birmingham, UK. However, signalling lamps made by other companies were still referred to as "Lucas Lamps" or "O.L Lamps." For this example; the lamp and component parts, all fit snugly into the two compartments of the green military issues case. The lamp can be mounted on a Helios tripod (not included), or staked in the ground as shown in the photograph.
