Description: For sale is an excellent quality Antique 19th century traveller's or military campaign writer's desk. It's wood veneer has fantastic grain and is exceptional especially on the lid. Likely flaming birch, but i am not so sure. It is inlaid with brass and structurally reinforced with brass edges as well. It opens smoothly and aligns as it should. The brass handles are intact and sturdy. Even the interior brass tabs which hold the cover of the inner compartments still work. The original dark red leather writing surface is quite clean and in great condition. Traveller's writing desks are uniquely designed to open into a sloped writing surface. Similar forms of writing desks have been suggested as military campaign items of the early 19th century. Overall this item is in good antique condition with solid hinges and a clean interior, but there are some areas of cracked or peeling veneer.
