Description: Asclepias incarnata is a herbaceous perennial in the Apocynaceae family. Common names are white milkflower, swamp silkweed, or white Indian hemp. This is a native to North America. It can grow in damp to wet soils where it can attract butterflies and other pollinators. It grows to 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide. The plants bloom in early mid-summer to early-fall, producing small, fragrant, white-colored flowers in rounded umbellate racemes on the elevated central crown. After blooming the green follicles or seed pods appear. They release brown, flat seeds that are attached to silky hairs that are beneficial for catching the wind to disperse the seeds. Zones 3-8 Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 65-70F. Germination is in 21-30 days.
