Refined in quality and detailing, this figural lace panel is useful for framing, embellishing pillows, etc. It features a Roman or Grecian female figure hold a torch and lotus flower swag. it is finished off with a wide border all around... In Greek mythology, the lotus flower was thought to bring "strength and purity to life." So the lotus plant was placed above the woman's head during childbirth "to ensure that the child would be pure and strong..." Generously proportioned, measures overall ~5&1/4 inches wide, ~8&1/4 long and finished all around. Note: The "male" version of this applique is offered in a separate listing... Appears unused. In overall very good condition considering age, with yellowing, and a rare tiny stubby thread. Though none are noted, there may be a rare broken bride or a rare light spot.
