Description: Antique SMALL 5.5" 19th C Pennsylvania ASH SPLINT Carved Handle ROUND BASKET Patina UNIQUE We purchased this basket recently here in Pennsylvania and could not wait to list it . It is a really nice smaller size and has some features that are a little quirky - that is why we had to have it!! It is made of splint- could be ash or oak but not sure. It has the original really nice authentic hue of naturally darkened splint. It measures approx 4"-4.5" Diameter- not a true round- more like an oval! It measures approx 2.75" tall to Rim and approx 5.5" Tall to top of handle. The patina is really nice and naturally aged surface and has really unique features in the workmanship. It measures approx 11" round (may be somewhat oval as well- it is not a perfect round basket) ), with the handmade carved handle. It has a wrapped rim and the handle has some uniqueness as to how the handle comes through the basket. if you look at the exterior there are really different features on the handle extensions- they are rolled???? Hard to explain- you have to see it in person. We never saw a basket with this feature. We are not really sure where it was made and it is most likely from Pennsylvania where we live. Either way it is a uniquely made and hard to find basket- the size is really nice as well. Please see all photos as they tell the best story. Also it will help you to decide your estimation of the condition and age as well. We have no direct provenance, written or otherwise. Thanks for looking.
