Description: Nice OLD hard maple cutting board with cut corners. Hand made and even though it is well worn you can still lightly feel the hand planed ups and downs on the surfaces. Ends and corners still show the filing marks, not saw marks, from shaping and smoothing. Could be an 1800s board but no positive way to tell (I'm not one of those dealers who insists this will be late 18th c. because it has a Federal shape with the cut corners). It's possible this was more of a serving tray as there are fewer cuts/utensil marks than you might expect from a kitchen daily work board. In this case, being earlier might be more acceptable. Has some spotting, stains, a 9'' crack and several smaller cracks on the ends, a natural fissure on one surface. Only the faintest current shuffling around markings from recent handling. Natural color and finish, nicely bleached out. No splinters or bad cuts or gouges, just a nice survivor. 19 3/4'' x 14 3/4'', weighs 6 pounds 4 ounces as it sits.
