Antique All-Original English Wax Votive Doll 1860’s Petite Shadow Box Diorama

Description: Beautifully preserved all-original English wax votive doll encased within a lemon-gilt framed shadow box is completely filled with decorative elements and has been beautifully preserved and remains in the original state as when was made in England in the 1860’s. The shadow box or diorama measures 10” x 12” x 5” deep. I purchased this item from Carmel Doll shop about 25 years ago. I paid over $1200 for it at that time. It is full of eye-catching detail in predominantly blue, pink, cream, and gold, and is a great size and can sit by itself on display or hung on a wall. The sides and back of the shadow box are covered in brown paper. Inside, the wax baby is swaddled in baby blue ribbon, net, and lace, and wears a gold threaded garment that is only visible at the shoulders. The baby is the centerpiece of the display. Around the votive, are intricate paper flowers and Pom-pons, pastel clusters of berries, tinsel and foil shapes, with a folded ribbon and net cluster at the baby’s crown. Glass glitter in various colors are liberally scattered about and are attached to the background paper. All this combines to give the effect that the wax votive child is nestled in the center of a floral garden. The original glass is intact and for further decoration, each corner outside the glass is accented with gold braiding.
