Description: This is Number Three of the series of "Documents and Narratives Concerning the Discovery and Conquest of Latin America" published by the Cortez Society of New York. Publication was limited to 250 copies. This book was from the library of Katherine L. Rieger. The volume is 146 pages and includes introductory comments on the background of the expedition by Alvarado, as well as a facsimile of the two letters from Alvarado to Hernando Cortez. I obtained the volume while doing excavation and research on the archaeological site of Utatlan, a locale central to the conquest of Guatemala. Publication was 400 years after the events, and this year marks the 500 year anniversary of the conquest of Guatemala. With publication limited to only 250 copies, this is indeed a rare book.
