Description: Alexander Hamilton Original 6 Handwritten Lines of a Legal Brief ALEXANDER HAMILTON choice section of a legal brief containing 6 handwritten lines of notes. The handwritten fragment dates from Hamilton's time as a lawyer in New York City. We believe this to relate to a case where Hamilton served as counsel to a ship master. An armed American ship carrying unspecified contraband was seized by the French, and the ship's Master attempted to take back the vessel. The underwriter of the ship attempted to avoid payment stating that the insurance did not cover the contraband. An excellent piece of handwriting from the same hand that helped draft the constitution and wrote America's financial structure into existence. Following the success of the revolutionary war, Hamilton began studying to become a lawyer - or as he related to the Marquis De Lafayette he was "studying the art of fleecing my neighbors". Hamilton was admitted the the NYC Bar in 1782 and practiced a wide variety of law. This particular document comes from Hamilton's dealings with maritime insurance. A rarely seen original piece of handwriting from one of America's most beloved founding fathers. CERTIFIED AUTHENTIC BY PSA/DNA AUTHENTICATION SERVICES EXPERT EXAMINATION. UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEED GENUINE – quite simply one of the finest Hamilton documents available on the market. Encapsulated in PSA/DNA's proprietary sonically sealed holder! Hamilton has written:"Question is more difficult, but I incline even this to the opinion that the underwriters are not liable. The putting contraband articles on board is a circumstance which intrinsically increases the risk and would be naturally taken into the estimate of the premium. It // the" PLEASE NOTE: The scrap is entirely in the handwriting of Hamilton, it is NOT SIGNED by Hamilton. If you are unclear or have questions about this please ask. We believe this scarp of handwriting likely originates from Hamilton's son James Hamilton. Following the death of his father (Alexander Hamilton) many collectors wrote to James Hamilton over the years seeking an autograph of Alexander Hamilton. James Hamilton cut and gave away all the signatures of Hamilton which he had in his possession. He then turned to the handwritten legal briefs of his father which he cut up and distributed. We think it's likely this is one such example. Snippet of Alexander Hamilton's handwriting measures 1.5"x6", the overall encapsulate measures approx. 9.5"x4.5". Scattered staining, uneven edges, as to be expected with the scraps age. Handwriting still remains remarkably bold and legible. Own a one of a kind, original piece of American history! The perfect gift for the Revolutionary War collector, autograph enthusiast, or History buff. A must have addition to any collection. Sold as is, as shown.
