The Ojuela Mine has a long, rich history stretching back to 1598 when the Spaniards first started mining silver-ore. The Ojuela Mine is a complex maze spanning underground for over 400 km. It was not until the end of WWII that the era of industrial mining was over, with an emphasis shifting towards mining mineral specimens. [1] Adamite, in its purest form, is colorless. But Adamite is a fascinating mineral that can occur in many different colors depending on which metal “impurities” are present in its composition. Hence the yellowish, green, blue, pinkish to purple colors you see. Some Ojuela Adamites fluoresce neon green under shortwave UV light, adding an extra dimension of allure to the specimens.
