Description: Amazingly rare AC Delco SKYPHONE Installation Center Metal sign. Delco created the first viable in-flight aircraft telephone service in the early/mid 1950's, marketing the system in the 1957-1958 period. The SKYPHONE system was sold to Astronautics Corp in about 1959, making this Delco-Branded sign very, very scarce. The Skyphone was invented in conjunction with the ACHIEVERPHONE, one of the first Mobile Telephone Systems. This is very early IMTS history, that ultimately made the cellphone possible. Sign measures 18" x 12.5", and is designed to hang from gromets along the top. Difficult to find aviation signs, especially this focused! Shipping includes insurance for actual value.
