Only Philly coined halves for circulation in 1955. Most of these were not released until the following year, and speculators were waiting for them. This issue was always rare in circulation, as most of it was preserved by the roll. Gems are plentiful, though many of these coins are poorly struck from worn dies. FBL examples are in the minority, but speculative interest in this date has led to enough submissions that certified pieces are readily available. No varieties are reported for the currency strikes, aside from the popular "Bugs Bunny" die clash. This is the date that first drew attention the curious effect created when the eagle's feathers clashed in the area of Franklin's mouth.
