High grade examples of these varieties are prized by collectors of U.S. fractional gold coins and tokens. This backdated issue is catalogued by Mike Locke as a Round 1854 California Gold 1/2. It has an Indian #1 obverse with 13 stars. It has a Bear #4 reverse. Minting error enthusiasts may notice evidence of a die crack on the obverse side. The die crack runs from K5 to K11. This error is a die marker for the variety. This token is smaller than a dime and weighs 0.48 grams. It is made of gilded brass. Token is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This impressive example displays superb color and gleaming luster. It sports bold detail and a nice strike.Very light and original toning is noted.
