SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 23 x 19 cm, 9 x 7.5 inches (medium) plus margins. PROVENANCE: This antique map first appeared in the rare "English Encyclopedia", made for George Kearsley in London in 1802. This example is a slightly later printing with an updated cartouche and was published in 'A Complete and Universal English Dictionary...' by the Rev. James Barclay, Printed for Thomas Kelly, No. 17 Paternoster Row. 1828. A scarce map and edition of which I have been unable to locate any other examples.ARTIST/ENGRAVER: Drawn by George Kearsley and engraved by James Barlow. The imprints with the names in the lower border are removed from this edition, but are shown on the original 1802 issue. There were two George Kearsley, father and son, both booksellers and print publishers, this being by the father, George Kearsley.TYPE: Antique copper plate engraving printed on paper. VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank. CONDITION: Good. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase.
