1700-1800s Italian Sicilian "A Fiocco" Bow Antique Cluster Ring REPAIR

Description: This rare Sicilian rosy gold cluster ring dates from the mid 18th to early 19th century. Known regionally as ‘a fiocco’ or bow rings, these pieces were traditionally gifted as engagement or wedding rings. Today they are a prized piece in any antique jewelry collection. This stunning historical ring has unfortunately seen better days. The band has thinned over the centuries and has separated in two areas. All pieces are accounted for. All stones are securely set and sturdy. One small side stone has a chip. A skilled jeweler would be able to repair or restore this antique to its original glory. Selling as is, as I cannot give it the attention it deserves. This beautiful example is set with a large central oval cut, foil-backed ruby red paste It is sandwiched on each side by a total of six smaller cushion or square cut pastes in closed-back collet settings. The gold mount is engraved with crosshatched and angular patterns. The ring has two hallmarks on the outer band towards the back of the ring. The hallmarks are very hard to decipher. Rings of this fashion were popular in Italy and the Mediterranean from the late 17th century up to the mid 19th century. Pre Victorian period. Several very similar examples can be found in many museum collections around the world. The Museo d’Arte Sacra Basilica Santa Maria Assunta, which is in the Sicilian town of Alcamo, boasts a beautiful collection of traditional examples. See the last photo from the collection.
